21 Things Realtors Need to Keep in Their Cars at All Times

As a realtor you do so much more than sell homes. You wear more hats than you see at the Derby races. Unfortunately, that's just what comes along with the territory, but, fortunately, that can be what makes being a realtor so much fun, too! If you're a veteran realtor, chances are you already have a trunk full of odds and ends, but if you're a new realtor, here is a list we've compiled for you to help you be prepared for whatever hat you have to wear that day.

Here's what to carry in your car at all times:

1. A heavy duty flashlight.

This one is a double dipper. Not only does it come in handy for listings that weren't maintained (no light sources), but it can also double as a weapon!

2. A Tape measure.

Will our couch fit in here? How big is this room? Now you can provide your clients with precise measurements.

3.  WD-40.

Squeaky doors or sticky locks are a pain. Just get rid of them altogether.

4. A broom.

Traffic to your listings is what we want. But traffic also means things will most likely get dragged in the door. Having a broom makes for a quick, easy clean up.

5. A bucket.

You can use it to store your cleaning supplies in your car for now, but you never know when it might come in handy. Have you ever sat in an open house with no water and have a guest use the bathroom?  We have, and we're glad we had a bucket!

6. Cleaning supplies.

Windex, all purpose cleaner, paper towels, sponge, and Clorox wipes all come in handy at some point in time. Feel free to add to the list. These are just the essentials.

7. Toilet paper.

When you've gotta go, you've gotta go. Most vacant homes won't still have toilet paper. You'll be glad you packed it.

8. Zip ties.

These are brilliant for hanging signs but they're good for so much more than just that!

9. Old towels or rags.

Sometimes things leak. It's always nice to have something there to clean it up with.

10. Snacks.

Switching gears here. This one is for you. You're out running around all day, making calls, meeting clients. There will be times where you forget to eat (or really don't even have the time to). In these situations, it's perfect to have a snack packed to get some fuel in you.

11. Water.

This goes hand-in-hand with the snacks. If you give a mouse a snack, he's going to want a water to go with it.

12. Hand wipes/ Hand sanitizer.

You shake a lot of hands and touch a lot of door knobs. Make sure to keep yourself safe from germs especially around flu season.

13. Tape.

This comes in handy for more than just taping up signs.

14. Protection.

It's worth mentioning that it is much better to be safe than sorry. Carry some sort of protection at all times, whatever that may mean to you. It doesn't have to be a gun, if that's something you don't believe in, but make sure than in the event of an attack, you will be able to protect yourself.

15. First aid kit.

One of the small kits from Walmart is perfect, but if you don't want to do that, at least carry some bandaids around.

16. Phone charger.

If you're anything like us, your phone is your life line. You can't afford for it to die during the day. Make sure to always carry a phone charger in your car.

17. Trash bags.

You'll want a trash bag around for unexpected items that need to be thrown away.

18. Paperwork/ Pen/ Lock box.

There's no time like the now to get a new listing and have it ready for showings.

19. Scissors.

This is mainly for when you use the zip ties. You'll need a way to get them undone.

20. Screw driver (both flathead and Phillips).

This way no one can say "there's a loose screw with that one".

21. A small hose.

No water in the pool? No problem. Fill that baby up with some water.

There are so many more things that you will need on your journey as a realtor, but this will get you off to a pretty good start! If you have any good items that we missed, please drop them in the comment box!
