Contemplating Becoming a Realtor?

Real Estate isn't for everyone, contrary to popular belief. Not everyone is cut out to work the business. Here are some key traits that don't make a good Realtor, to help you decide if this is the business for you before you invest time and energy into.

1. You Are A "Testing The Waters" Type of Person.

First of all, if you are just "testing" something out,  you are already setting yourself up for failure. In fact, you're already planning to fail because you're giving yourself an out. All too often people start real estate because they see the successes of another realtor. Unfortunately, they don't see the hours of rise-and-grind it took to get there. When you're testing something out you are likely doing so to gain the quick money and then, if it doesn't "work", you're out. If this sounds like you, you might consider selling something on Craigslist or taking clothes to Plato's Closet for the quick cash instead. This leads me to another trait.

2. You're Not A Planner.

You have to have a plan. If you're going to be a Realtor, you are running your own business. You wouldn't start a business without having a plan would you?  No. You wouldn't, and if you would you shouldn't be starting a business. Think of your business plan as a road map.

3. You're Not A "Learner".

Just like with anything new, you have to take the time to learn it. You have to face reality and reality is, you don't know everything about real estate. You have to be willing to teach yourself because you don't have anyone there holding your hand. If you are the type of person that needs someone to tell you what to do and how to do it, real estate isn't for you. That sounds harsh but it's true. You have to be able to learn the trade and solve problems on your own. The great thing about The New Home Spot, is that we give you the tools to be independent and successful. We have people set in place for when you have those questions (with anything new, you WILL have questions), but we also give you the knowledge to be able to grow on your own. This is necessary. To be successful in your real estate business you will need to be independent and seek the knowledge yourself.

4. You Lack Ambition and Persistence.

Like stated above, real estate is not easy. You need the drive it takes to want to build your brand and business, but also, when it doesn't happen right away, the persistence it takes to push through until it does! Realtors put in hours of ground work in order for their business to blow up. Hours at open houses, dollars spent on marketing, night after night at networking events.

However, if you are ambitious and willing to put in the work, Real Estate could be for you! If you're thinking about starting your journey as a Realtor in Florida, give The New Home Spot a call (239.333.0020)! We'd love to have someone like you join our team and watch you grow your business!
